Connecting to school WiFi

If you're a member of staff or student, and want to connect your own device to the school's WiFi:

Cherwell staff and students can access the school's free WiFi by connecting to eduroam. This will only need to be setup once, and you'll stay connected to the network at Cherwell and at thousands of locations throughout the UK. See eduroam.org for further details.

NOTE that cherwellschool.org accounts are currently unable to roam internationally due to technical limitations. If this is a problem for you, please contact IT Support.

eduroam (education roaming) is the secure, world-wide roaming access service developed for the international research and education community. eduroam allows students, researchers and staff from participating institutions to obtain Internet connectivity across campus and when visiting other participating institutions, without any complex setup.

How to connect to school Wi-Fi - Please read and follow all relevant instructions.

Students and staff should connect to eduroam. You only need to set it up once. If you change your password, then this will need to set this up again. New students and staff who have not yet logged into their google account, must log in and reset their passwords first. Before you start, make sure your device is connected to the internet using home Wi-Fi or mobile data (4G/5G). Please proceed with the applicable device instructions below.

💻 Windows or MacOS

Download the Securly SSL certificate and install it on your device.

This certificate allows the school's web filtering to work correctly. Without it, some websites may not work properly.

Go to eduroam Configuration Assistant Tool (CAT) and download the tool for your device.

Run the eduroam setup.
- On Windows, open the downloaded file and follow the instructions.
- On your Mac, open the downloaded file. Once opened, go to Settings, search for Profile, and select the VPN & Device Management option.

Then select the profile and follow the instrictions to install it.

Open your Wi-Fi settings and you should be able to select and automatically connect to eduroam.

📱 iPhone or Android

Download the Securly SSL certificate.

This certificate allows the school's web filtering to work correctly. Without it, some websites may not work properly.

Follow the relevant instructions to install it:
- Android
- iPhone/iPad

Download geteduroam from your device's app store:
- Google Play
- Apple App Store

Open geteduroam, search for and select The Cherwell School.

Enter your school Google account email address and password when prompted. Save the network when prompted.

Open your Wi-Fi settings and you should be able to select and automatically connect to eduroam.

💻 Chromebook

For the setup to work, sign in using a personal Gmail account, not your school account.

Download the Eduroam for ChromeOS configuration file.

Open Chrome and in the top search bar, enter: chrome://network
Scroll down to Import ONC File, select Choose File, and choose the file you downloaded.

Open your Chromebook's Wi-Fi settings and select eduroam.

Enter your school email address in the Identity field and your school password.
Leave the other settings unchanged. Click connect.
Staying on your personal account, open chrome and add your School email as a secondary email address.
You should then be able to access your school account from there.

If you're a guest visiting the school and need WiFi access:

Requesting an access code:

Staff members who are hosting guests at the school can request WiFi access for them by emailing IT Support. You will need to send us the following details:

How many guests need WiFi access
The dates and duration of their visit

How to connect:

Connect to the WiFi network 'Cherwell-Visitor'.
When prompted for a WiFi password, enter the code that IT Support generated for you.
You should now have access to the WiFi.
