Connecting to school WiFi

If you're a member of staff or student, and want to connect your own device to the school's WiFi:

Cherwell staff and students can access the school's free WiFi by connecting to eduroam. This will only need to be setup once, and you'll stay connected to the network at Cherwell and at thousands of locations throughout the UK. See eduroam.org for further details.

NOTE that cherwellschool.org accounts are currently unable to roam internationally due to technical limitations. If this is a problem for you, please contact IT Support.

eduroam (education roaming) is the secure, world-wide roaming access service developed for the international research and education community. eduroam allows students, researchers and staff from participating institutions to obtain Internet connectivity across campus and when visiting other participating institutions, without any complex setup.

How to connect:

We recommend using the eduroam CAT (Configuration Assistance Tool) for setting up your connection. To make this work, follow the below instructions:

Windows / MacOS:

  1. Make sure you have an internet connection, such as 4G or a home WiFi connection.

  2. Download and install the Securly SSL certificate, by following the instructions here. This is to allow our web filtering service to filter your device. If you skip this step, you will experience issues when visiting some websites.

  3. Download and run the eduroam CAT tool. Follow the instructions it presents, and it will auto configure your device to connect to eduroam.

  4. When you want to connect to eduroam, click on 'eduroam' in your list of WiFi networks and enter your school Google account email address / password. To avoid entering your credentials every time, you can select the option on your device to always connect/remember.

Apple iOS / Android:

  1. Make sure you have an internet connection, such as 4G or a home WiFi connection.

  2. Download and install the Securly SSL certificate, by following the instructions here. This is to allow our web filtering service to filter your device. If you skip this step, you will experience issues when visiting some websites.

  3. Open your device application store, and download the geteduroam app (Google Play Store, Apple App Store)

  4. Launch the geteduroam app, and search for 'The Cherwell School' when prompted to choose your institution.

  5. When prompted for a username and password, enter your school Google account email address / password.

  6. You're all set! When you want to connect to Eduroam, click on 'eduroam' in your list of WiFi networks.
